Scope:

Reviews of recommended library materials, including advance reviews of books, as well as reference and media resources. Provides over 135,000 reviews and thousands of features since 1992, as well as full-text access since 1997.

Books In Print Global Edition

Bowker’s Books In Print Global Edition

Access:

Using the Home screen’s Query tool, select Title from the All drop-down menu, and enter the title of the book. In the list of search results, click the title link to access the item record. Then click Professional Reviews in the left-side column.

Scope:

Provides bibliographic records and reviews for a wide range of genres and formats.

Kirkus Reviews

Access:

Via the Western Libraries online catalogue

Scope:

Provides over 500 book reviews per month before they are published, including fiction, non-fiction, children’s and young adult literature. Also includes an archive of over 300,000 reviews since 1933.

NoveList

Access:

Via EbscoHost. Find direct link alphabetically in FIMS Graduate Library Databases page.

Scope:

Provides not only reviews of, but reader advisory for over 155,000 works of fiction by cross-referencing related books, series information, newsletters, and events. It also allows for integrated use of literature-related social media such as Goodreads and NextReads in providing a comprehensive literature review and readers’ advisory experience.

Access:

Scope:

In addition to NoveList, provides reviews of, and readers advisory for, non-fiction in addition to fiction materials.

NoveList K-8

Access:

Via EbscoHost. Find direct link alphabetically in FIMS Graduate Library Databases page.

Scope:

Provides reviews of, and recommendations for, a subset of materials covered by NoveList generally limited to the specified age group. It includes a small number of adult titles that are used in middle school curricula.

Scope:

In addition to NoveList K-8, provides reviews of, and readers’ advisory for, non-fiction in addition to fiction materials.

Publishers Weekly

Access:

Scope:

Access:

Scope:

Provides over 8,000 reviews annually of books, e-books, audio books, videos and DVDs, databases, systems, and websites. Library Journal claims to be “the most trusted and respected publication for the library community”.

Scope:

Via the Western Libraries online catalogue. Provides indexing and abstracts for almost 400 journals, and full-text coverage for over 160 journals.

Scope:

Provides indexing and abstracts for over 440 periodicals in over 20 languages. 500 records are added every two weeks.

Scope:

Since 1974, provides over 5000 book reviews aimed at school librarians who serve students from K-12.
