For your upcoming course, the FIMS Graduate Library is pleased to upload course readings on your behalf. To take advantage of this service, email us with your syllabus. We will take care of the rest.
If you prefer a self-serve option, we have provided instructions for you below to get you started.
Service Note:
- New Purchases, items to be acquired via Interlibrary Loans, and items requiring copyright clearance may take longer to be made available.
- Individual request forms are required for readings from personal copies of books or media and for previously scanned books or articles.
- Syllabus should include complete citation information.
- The Course Readings tool must be added for your course before the library can upload documents. (Instructions below)

Access the Course Readings Service
Set up your Brightspace site using the Course Readings system. Login using your Western Identity.
Add the Course Readings tool to Brightspace [provide a link here]
Click “+ New Unit”
- Create a new unit titled “Course Readings”
- Click “Save and Close”
Click the new “Course Readings” Unit from the menu
- Click Add Existing
- Click External Tool Activity
- Select Course Readings from the list
After the page reloads, Course Readings will now be added to your Content.
Click Open Link.
- Course Readings will launch in a new window.
- Select the appropriate term and click Create Course.
Add or Manage Course Readings
Select your course from the “Current Courses” table or “View upcoming courses”. From here you can add course readings individually. Select “Add Course Readings” and fill in the form.
Add Course Syllabus
The syllabus is also uploaded by selecting “Add Curse Readings” and then choosing the “Syllabus Service” form. You can upload the syllabus as a word or PDF document.
