Work Opportunity in the FIMS Graduate Library (Winter/Summer 2026)
Position: Student Library Assistant (SLA) (Multiple openings)
The FIMS Graduate Library is looking for detail-oriented Student Library Assistants to join our team! The successful candidates will contribute to general library operations and focused project work.
We are committed to building a diverse team that reflects the vibrant community served by the FIMS Graduate Library and encourage qualified candidates from all backgrounds and positionalities to apply. We are interested in applications from students who meet the following criteria:
- Currently enrolled LIS graduate students who have completed or will complete LIS 9003 by December 2025.
- Enrolled full-time in Western University’s LIS program (minimum of three courses) for the Winter and Summer terms.
- Able to work on-site part-time, including evenings and/or weekends, for eight consecutive months.
- Interest in gaining hands on experience in library-based project work
Project Work
Some examples of the projects that student library assistants work on at the FIMS Graduate Library include design and delivery of library programming, collections development, curating e-book lists, new book lists and displays at the library, virtual reference services, and special collections cataloguing.
Expectations:
- 3–6 hours per week (3-hour shifts) with consistent weekly assignments, opportunities for additional hours, and flexibility to trade shifts with peers.
- One position includes a regular Saturday shift for the Winter term (excluding holidays and Reading Week), with opportunities to trade the shift when necessary.
- A mix of public service and project-based responsibilities.
- Independent and collaborative assignments, including occasional solo work on-site.
- Compensation: $22/hour.
- Practical experience and mentorship in library operations and project work.
